Local Government Association of Tasmania

Local Government has several roles to play in the management of fire in the landscape. These range from planning and approvals of developments in bushfire prone areas to council land management responsibilities and the Fire Hazard Abatement process for removing statutory fire hazard nuisances on private land. Councils also play a significant role in emergency recovery. Local Government’s interests on the State Fire Management Council are represented by the Local Government Association of Tasmania (LGAT).

The Local Government Association of Tasmania is the peak body in Tasmania representing Local Government to other governments, interested stakeholders and the wider community. LGAT works to protect the interests and rights of councils, to promote the efficient operation of Local Government and to foster strategic and beneficial relationships.
